What is Assume Referential Integrity in Tableau?

Consider I owe you 1 Million and you come and ask me to return you that Money. Then I told you that Bill Gates owes me 2 Million and will return your money as soon as he returns me that amount.

Do you believe me?

No right!!!

But then I brought Sharukh Khan and made him tell you that Bill Gates owes me 2 Million (Sharukh thinks that it is a part of the reality show. Shhh!!! Don’t tell him). Now, will you trust me?

Yes!!!

After a period of time, you happen to meet Bill Gates at a meeting and asked him if he owes me 2 Million.

Now you all know what is the Answer. But in short this is what Assume Referential Integrity is my Friends.

Coming Back to the topic, in this scenario,

you are the end-user.
I am the Table A from which you are pulling the values
Bill Gates( Table B) is the Table that is joined to the Table I am referring
Sharuk Khan is Tableau Desktop

Now when you want to Build a view, you will ask me if every record in Table A (Money that I Owe) has a matching record in Table B( Money that Bill Gates Owe me)

To answer that question, I will bring Tableau (Sharuk Khan) into the picture by activating Assume Referential Integrity

Do Tableau know if Referential Integrity is present between Table A and Table B? No

But as I insisted, it will say so. But if there is any mismatch of records, then the output is erroneous

That is referential Integrity for you, my friends.
